Top 10 Tools for Learning Professionals

Jane Hart runs a very splendid resource, Top Tools for Learning
and she invites information professionals to list their favourite top

back at the tools I suggested over a year ago, to see how many I would
still recommend, and which – if any – have been replaced with something
else.

The tools that I chose in February 2008 were:
Audacity (an audio recording piece of software)
Bloglines (RSS reader)
Firefox (web browser)
Flickr (Photograph sharing resource)
FURL (boomarking resource)
Pageflakes (home/start page resource)
PBWiki (a wiki creation package)
Slideshare (social media resource for storing and sharing presentations)
Typepad (Blogging tool)
Twitter…Read More

Teleportation Is Real – But Don’t Try It at Home

Physics and magic aren’t often mistaken, but increasingly, physicists
themselves seem to be trying to change that. Last year, a team at the
University of California, Berkeley, announced that it had developed
materials that could lead to an invisibility cloak. Last month, a group
of researchers at Harvard University and the National Institutes of
Health reported that it had accomplished something not unlike
levitation, causing a microscopic sphere of gold to rise above a glass

Squeezed by
classroom budget cuts, the Rancho Bernardo High School teacher is
selling ads on his exams to cover the costs of printing them.

“It raises money for the teachers and it’s amusing for the kids, so it
seems like a win-win,” said Luke Shaw, 18, a student at the suburban
San Diego, California, school.

Parents and administrators also
praise Farber, 47, for his creative classroom funding, but he doesn’t
want it to become the norm.

“My intention is, [selling ads] is a stopgap measure,” said Farber. “I don’t want to be doing this year after year.”

Instead, he says, government must do more to help educators provide what students need. Read More..
